About
Where communications meet community.
ChatterBack is a community site for the people who keep radios on the air: GMRS, amateur radio, Meshtastic and MeshCore. It grew out of Oklahoma and is built for every state - each one gets a hub with four service groups, a repeater and node directory, nets, and a feed.
What it does
- Directory. Repeaters and mesh nodes with the numbers you need to program a radio, kept honest by members tapping Heard it.
- Community. A feed, state groups, clubs and networks. Light on purpose - no algorithm, no ads, nothing to game.
- Knowledge. RadioWiki: guided paths and plain-language articles, written and edited by members, every revision kept.
- Verification. Callsigns are checked against the FCC. Your licence address is never stored; your location is shared at grid-square precision unless you choose otherwise.
Data sources
- FCC Universal Licensing System - GMRS licence file, synced weekly. Ham callsigns via Callook.
- Meshtastic public MQTT - node positions on the default channel, sampled every few hours. Regional channels with their own keys are never decoded.
- NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center for band conditions; the National Weather Service for severe alerts.
- Map tiles from OpenFreeMap; base data © OpenStreetMap contributors.
Rules, briefly
- Listings are community-maintained. Every edit is attributed and logged.
- Respect a repeaterâs access level. Ask owner means ask.
- Wiki articles are CC BY-SA. Maintainers can lock a page during a dispute.
- No business, no crypto, no selling. Classifieds may come later; spam wonât.
Who runs it
ChatterBack is run by Lee Odom (WRDT679) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with state coordinators as the community grows. Corrections, complaints and offers to help: hello@chatterback.net.
There is no Google account requirement, no tracking beyond what the site needs to work, and the apps - when they arrive - will run on GrapheneOS.
