What we collect, and what we don't.

ChatterBack is a community site run by One Overland LLC in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has no advertising, no analytics trackers, and no data brokers. This page says plainly what the site stores and why.
What you give us
- Account: email address and a password (stored hashed by our auth provider). Your email is used to sign in, confirm your account, and send notifications youâve asked for. It is never shown to other members and never sold.
- Profile: display name, username, optional photo, cover photo, bio, town, website, radios and interests. All of it is public by design; only add what you want seen.
- Location: you choose the precision. Grid square stores only the centre of a roughly 5Â km cell; exact stores the point you gave. Other members see your grid square. Your exact point is used only to fetch weather alerts for you and is never displayed or shared.
- Callsigns: when you verify a licence we check it against public FCC records and keep the callsign, licence class, grant/expiry dates and state. We never store the street address from the FCC record.
- Content: posts, replies, reactions, photos, listings, edits, wiki revisions, claims and flags - attributed to you and, for listings and wiki pages, kept in a public history.
What the site records on its own
- A session cookie so you stay signed in. That is the only cookie. There is no third-party tracking of any kind.
- Standard server logs at our hosting providers (request paths, IP, timing) retained briefly for security and debugging.
- Your approximate region from your IP, used once on the landing page to pick which state to open. It isnât stored.
Who else touches the data
The site runs on Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database, auth, file storage, US East) and Resend (email). Weather widgets call NOAA and the National Weather Service directly from our servers, not from your browser. Public radio data (FCC licence files, Meshtastic and MeshCore network maps, repeater directories) is imported and attributed on the data sources page.
What we donât do
- No ads, no ad networks, no pixels.
- No selling or renting of any member data, ever.
- No requirement for a Google, Apple or social account.
- No decoding of private mesh channels. Only traffic on public default channels reaches the public maps we read.
What you control
- Edit or remove anything on your profile at any time from Settings.
- Delete your own posts, replies, and photos.
- Delete your account from Settings. This removes your profile, posts, replies, reactions, licences, claims, memberships and notifications immediately. Listings you added and wiki revisions you wrote stay - they belong to the community - but are no longer attributed to you.
- Email hello@chatterback.net for anything else: a copy of your data, a correction, or a question.
Children
ChatterBack is for adults and licensed operators. We donât knowingly collect information from anyone under 13; if you believe we have, email us and weâll remove it.
