MeshCore Observer HowTo:

Step-by-step how to get an observer node reporting to corescope.tulsa-mesh.com

1 min readUpdated 3w1 contributor

If you are interested in contributing to Tulsa's CoreScope observer network here are the quick and easy steps to get your site reporting!

I assume you know how to flash nodes, I will not be elaborating on this process.

First you need to make sure you have the required hardware. Follow this link and see what devices are compatible. MeshCore flasher

Once you have finished flashing the device, keep it connected to your computer and connect to it with the configuration tool via USB. Give it a name and set your admin password etc etc as would normally. GIVE THE NODE POSITION COORDINATES. This is important so it shows up on the map. If privacy is a concern, be obscure but approximate, try to keep it within 0.5 -1 miles of the true location. Once you've completed the node setup process go into the console and enter these commands to setup MQTT reporting:

Start by configuring your wifi:

set wifi.ssid yourwifihere

set wifi.pwd yourpasswrdhere

reboot

Allow the device to reboot then reconnect and go back into the console for further commands:

set mqtt.iata TUL

set mqtt2.preset custom

set mqtt2.server wss://mqtt.tulsa-mesh.com:443/mqtt

set mqtt2.audience mqtt.tulsa-mesh.com

reboot

go to https://corescope.tulsa-mesh.com/#/observers to verify your node has started reporting. if it isn't on this list, you made an error. you can go back through the commands and make sure you didn't typo anything or reflash entirely if that doesn't work.
